Email To SMS

This page is for visitors who have seen my SMS web form at http://ross.net/home/sms.shtml and want to know how they can get their webs to send SMS messages too.

The way that I have done it is to purchase an Email-to-SMS gateway from my internet service provider (ISP) Internode Professional Access. For a once-ever fee of AU$25, Internode will set up an email address of the form 6141xxxxxxxx@sms.on.net for you, where the xxxx is your mobile phone number. Once that's done, any email sent to that address will be sent to your phone as a single SMS message (truncated as necessary) at a cost of about AU$0.50 (for which you will be billed).

Once this email-to-SMS gatreway is set up, it's easy to modify your web to send an SMS message. Just modify your web to send an email to the gateway address!

As at July 2001, Internode supports only Australian Vodafone and Telstra mobile phones. If your phone is not one of these, perhaps you can find some other ISP that provides a similar service.

For more information on the Internode service, see http://www.on.net/services/s_sms.html. If that URL doesn't work, try http://www.on.net/ and explore.
