WebHints: Images: Capturing

Here are some of the options for entering your own images into your computer system for use in your web.

Digital Cameras

Perhaps the simplest way to capture images is to take images with a digital camera and then transfer them directly to your computer. Unfortunately, currently (November 1995) available digital cameras don't seem to have to resolution/colours to do a good enough job.

Scan In Photographs

Another simple way to capture images is to take photographs and then scan them in using a flatbed scanner. This is the method I recommend for most uses.

Scan in Slides

If you fork out some money, you can buy a gadget that hooks up to your scanner to enable you to scan in slides. I haven't tried this so I don't know whether this provides better or worse quality than photos.

Kodak CD

If you want top quality, the way to go is definitely to take photographs and then get them developed directly onto a CD-ROM in Kodak PhotoCD format. You can use this directly. Typical cost is around US$120 for 100 images.
