The Finger service allows you to find out basic information about someone who has an account on a multi-user machine (e.g. Unix, VMS) one the Internet.
Usage: Finger is very useful for seeing if someone
who has an account on a multi-user machine is at their terminal. However,
as more and more Internet users connect from Macintoshes and PCs, the
finger service will become less useful. Probably most Internet users
haven't even heard of it.
